When does camp finish?
Each week, the staff meeting should conclude by 5 PM on Friday. The last day for most summer staff will be Friday, August 6th.
When will I work?/Will I get time off?
- A typical week of camp for staff begins on Sunday at 2pm and ends on Friday around 5pm.
- After a camp session ends on Friday you will be off until the next camp session begins on Sunday.
- Note: If you do not live close enough to commute to camp each week, you may get permission to stay at camp over the weekends during your time off, pending availability.
- Meals are not provided during time off.
- The schedule is built to allow some time off for staff each day. On occasion, severe weather or other emergency circumstances may disrupt the time-off rotation.
- Camp sessions will run every week through June & July (except the first week of July so that campers and staff may observe Independence Day.)
Can I be gone during the summer?
While we understand staff members might occasionally need to be gone for short periods of time (doctor’s appointment, college orientation, etc.), longer absences need to be approved prior to summer and are discouraged. Staff taking a week off makes maintaining supervision ratios a challenge, so we ask staff to make vacation plans outside of the summer program schedule.
Where will I live?
Counselors will live in cabins with campers. Support Staff will also live in the cabins with campers, providing additional supervision of campers. Summer leadership staff will stay in the Lodge, but may be asked to provide supervision in cabin areas.
What about meals?
Our kitchen offers a variety of nutritious meals & can accommodate those with special dietary needs. Staff members receive meals at no cost during camp sessions.
Will I get training?
Prior to campers arriving, staff members take part in two weeks of intensive training. The training includes a wide range of topics including outdoor skills, child development, & leadership. In addition, staff members will attend weekly training throughout the summer. This is a very important part of our summer experience and staff training is mandatory.
What do you expect at a Christian Camp?
Counselor staff will lead a daily Bible Study and evening Devotion with the campers in their assigned age group, using a curriculum written by the Conference Leadership. We expect all staff to model respectful participation in morning watch and evening worship, in whatever way in genuine for you. Your role is to encourage healthy movement in the faith journeys of the campers. Ultimately, working at a Christian camp requires that you treat everyone as worthy, beloved children of God while serving in that role.
What if I’m not from the United Methodist Church?
We welcome staff members from a variety of Christian backgrounds.
Who will I work with?
Our summer camp is a team effort between our year-round staff, our summer staff & volunteers. Our summer staff are primarily college students from around the region.
