Position Title: Resource Staff

Supervisor: Summer Camp Director

Location: Camp Dickenson, Fries, VA

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Minimum of two years experience on Summer Camp Staff.

  • Good character, integrity, and adaptability.

  • A love for God, children, and the outdoors that we live and work in.

  • Must have a general knowledge of outdoor adventure-based programs.

  • Ability to teach, train, and evaluate coworkers on the proper use of outdoor adventure gear.

Purpose and General Description of Job:

To supervise and evaluate the use of outdoor adventure activities, including high ropes, the climbing wall, zip line, tubing, mountain biking, canoeing, and group initiatives. To properly train camp employees on outdoor activities and maintain up-to-date documentation of experience hours spent leading those activities. To oversee the organization and cleaning of outdoor gear so that it is available and accessible to any camp staff that might need to use it. To lead outdoor adventure activities as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise and train camp staff in leading outdoor adventure activities and appropriately maintain outdoor gear.  

  • Train staff members on how to properly lead high adventure activities and how to respond in emergency situations.

  • Daily supervision of camp staff as they lead and assist in leading outdoor adventure activities. 

  • Maintain documentation of each adventure leader’s experience as lead instructor and/or assistant instructor. 

  • Observe and evaluate certified activity leads and assistant leaders.

  • Create, plan, and execute a plan for maintaining and organizing outdoor adventure gear. 

  • Oversee the inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of outdoor gear. 

  • Consult with the Summer Camp Director in the scheduling of certified counselors and staff to lead activities and assist with activities.

  • Give up-to-date documentation to the Summer Camp Director at the beginning of each week before scheduling begins.

  • Communicate with the Summer Camp Director when any specific needs arise in scheduling certified leads and assistant leads.

  • Coordinate activity sign-ups at the beginning of each week.
