Together for Tomorrow

Each summer, gathered on the side of mountain tops, along the shores of lakes and streams, and around campfires, young people come to an understanding of their part in God’s plan. They make decisions to follow Christ, to dedicate their lives to service, and they develop an appreciation for the importance of creation and its stewardship. They experience the fullness of God’s love through the fun and fellowship of outdoor recreation and emerge from a week of camp stronger and more resilient, better able to navigate the challenges of school and popular culture. For all these reasons and so many more, Camping and Retreat Ministries is a vital and essential part of the church’s ministry with youth and children.

This year, because of coronavirus and concerns about the safety of our children, staff, and their families, kids across our conference will not experience camp. Trails won’t be trekked. Campfires won’t be lit. And, because of what won’t happen this summer, we are all diminished. It isn’t just our children and youth who have missed out. We have all lost an opportunity to reach our youth. More than a play date or vacation, summer camp immerses children in the stream of God’s loving universe in a way that forever alters the way that children see themselves, each other, God, and the Church.

How many times are new parents told “Enjoy this time. It goes by quickly”? How often do parents of grown children reflect that their time with their children at home was too brief? We have but a few years and a handful of opportunities to shape the lives of the youth and children that God has entrusted to our care. Making the most of every year, of every summer is critical.

Sadly, we can’t do anything about this summer and its lost experiences, but we can stand together in a way that will ensure that we don’t lose these experiences next year or in years to come. By taking steps to strengthen our camps financially through fundraising, we can ensure that when we are able to once again bring our children together safely, our camp and retreat ministries will be healthy and strong, able to play the critical part in youth and children’s ministries that we have for decades relied on them to play.

Annual Fund

Donations to the Annual Fund help support the camp's day-to-day operation. These gifts makes it possible for us to reduce our fees for quality programs and services to thousands of campers, students and guests each year. The Annual Fund also helps us with the routine maintenance of the camp's 20+ buildings, the infrastructure to support those facilities plus the roads, trails and grounds on our 536 acre property. Small gifts can have a great impact here.

Camper Scholarships

High quality, impactful camp programming has many associated costs. The full cost of a week of camp is financially out of reach for some families, but we believe every child should have the opportunity to experience summer camp. Gifts to the Campership Fund support a need-based financial aid program designed to make a week at Camp Dickenson available to every child. Every gift, no matter the size, will be applied 100% to camper registration fees.

Capital Campaign

The Growing and Going Campaign is underway now! In 2018 we grew significantly by completing construction on the Multi-Purpose Building. Our goal is to retire the debt from that construction by the end of our 50th year of ministry. Once we retire that debt, we will be able to go forth into our next 50 years debt free! The funds currently being used to pay interest will go back to supporting our campers and guests.

Current remaining balance: $453,000

Endowment Fund

Your gift to the Endowment Fund offers the opportunity to make a long term investment in the health and vitality of the camp's ministry. Endowment gifts are invested and generate income each year that can be used to support the camp's needs. Large gifts can have the greatest impact for years to come in this fund. Consider Camp Dickenson in your estate planning and give a gift that will impact children forever.
